When you think of the county, it is hard not to think of the university with feelings of the whole area by association being historical and posh. Indeed in parts you would not be far wrong.

Witney

Coming in fifth on our list is Witney,  where a house on average will cost £260,000.

This historic town is mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086 and has a population of around 27,511 (in 2011). The town previously grew prosperous on the back of the blanket making trade and at one time had 5 blanket factories in the town, but these have long since closed. The town does have schools to all ages, but unfortunately no train station.

 Bicester

Number 4 on our list of most affordable places to buy in Oxfordshire, is Bicester where a house will set you back on average £251,000.

Bicester has become famous in recent years for Bicester Village, which is an outlet mall for lots of designer brands. Therefore many people travel from all over the country to try and pick up designer goods at knock down prices.  As such the travel links are quite good, with the town being close to the M40 and having a railway station that will take you into London is less than 1 hour.The town itself is exactly halfway between London and Birmingham being 51 miles from each city.

Didcot

Coming in third on our list is Didcot,   where a 3 bedroom house will on average cost £250,000.

Didcot lies 9 miles south of Oxford and has various schools (at least 6 primary schools) and some great sports and leisure facilities. It is known for its railway heritage, having a popular railway museum in the town.

 Wantage

Runner up on our list of affordable areas, is Wantage  where a house will cost you on average £245,000.

Wantage is a historic town which was originally part of Berkshire until the borders changed. It has good schools, shopping and leisure facilities and was voted as having “Britain’s Best Town Centre” in 2014.

Originally a Roman settlement, Wantage was the birthplace of King Alfred the Great in 849.

 Banbury

Coming in as the cheapest place in Oxfordshire to buy property is Banbury,   where a 3 bedroom  house will cost on average £200,000.

Considering the fact it is the most affordable town in Oxfordshire, it still is an attractive historical town in its own right. It has excellent transport links being close to the M40 and has its own railway station taking to you London Marylebone is just over an hour, with Birmingham also being commutable from the town.
